Chiefs Reportedly Add RB In Undrafted Free Agency

Headshot_tiny by Joel Thorman on Apr 28, 2012 7:26 PM CDT

The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to three known deals with undrafted free agents, all of them unofficial of course. An offensive guard, a safety and now, from Colgate, a running back. The Chiefs have reportedly agreed to an undrafted free agent contract with Colgate RB Nate Eachus.

He just tweeted out: "Feels good to be a Kansas City Chief!"

We'll wait for the official confirmation from the Chiefs sometime this weekend, or early next week.

Adding a running back is no surprise The Chiefs need depth in that area and, while a UDFA making the roster is a long shot, Eachus will be given that shot. He can also play fullback and special teams.

Here's his NFL Draft Scout page, where there's more information on him.

Another Local UDFA For The Chiefs

Headshot_tiny by Joel Thorman on Apr 28, 2012 7:38 PM CDT in NFL Draft 2012

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that a Nebraska Cornhusker is coming to the Kansas City Chiefs. Per the newspaper. Brandon Kinnie, Huskers receiver, has agreed to an undrafted free agent deal with the Chiefs.

His hometown is KC, which means he's probably pretty cool.

Here's a tidbit on him from the Omaha World Herald earlier this week:

It takes some looking to find Kinnie on most lists of receiver rankings with the three-day draft set to begin Thursday night. The 6-foot-3, 218-pounder is not among the Top 50 on some. But Kinnie thinks he showed his speed at the Huskers' pro day last month - running 4.41 in the 40-yard dash - and made good impressions on teams with how he tested and carried himself.

He worked out for both the Patriots and Chiefs. Picking his hometown probably wasn't too tough

Undrafted Free Agent Wildcat Reportedly Joins Chiefs

Headshot_tiny by Joel Thorman on Apr 28, 2012 7:16 PM CDT

The Kansas City Chiefs have another undrafted free agent signing and this time the player is local -- Tysyn Hartman out of Kansas State. He's a safety prospect who went undrafted in this weekend's draft. The signing is unofficial until the Chiefs confirm it later this weekend.

The Chiefs knew they wanted to add some safety depth heading into the draft. Hartman will be given a chance to be that depth this offseason. The odds are against him but there's always the hope that you can make your mark on special teams, too.

The Chiefs attended the K-State pro day so they saw him work out there. We're not sure of any visits or other points of contact between Hartman and the Chiefs.

By the way, Hartman is a team captain.

Chiefs First Undrafted Free Agent Signing

Headshot_tiny by Joel Thorman on Apr 28, 2012 7:11 PM CDT

Our first reported undrafted free agent signing for the Kansas City Chiefs is Cal G Justin Cheadle. This comes directly from the Cal Athletics website so it's probably accurate but just a reminder that all this is unofficial until the Chiefs confirm it all.

Cheadle's an offensive guard and there's not a whole lot out there on him.

I like picking up offensive linemen in undrafted free agency because you can always groom then on your practice squad for a year. Offensive linemen can occasionally take some time to develop.

Keep adding that beef, Pioli.

Latest Undrafted Free Agent Signing Is A Safety

Headshot_tiny by Joel Thorman on Apr 28, 2012 7:55 PM CDT

Safeties and receivers seem to be the theme of the Kansas City Chiefs undrafted free agent signings. The latest safety is Jean Fanor, out of Bethune-Cookham. He's listed at 6'1" and 200 pounds.

We'll consider the signing officially unofficial, until the Chiefs confirm it...even though he tweeted this out already:

Thank you Jesus for this opportunity...without you i would not be in this position#Truth

Sometimes these undrafted free agents come out of smaller schools, like Bethune-Cookham, and there's not much information on the players. We'll learn more about these guys in the coming weeks.

KC Chiefs Undrafted Free Agent Signings Continue To Roll In
by Chris Thorman on Apr 29, 2012 8:49 AM CDT in NFL Draft 2012

Like every other team in the NFL after the draft, the Kansas City Chiefs are wheeling and dealing with lots of undrafted free agents. Don't look too much into the Chiefs loading up on athleticism in the hours after the draft. Wide receivers and defensive secondary players make good special teams players. It is unlikely we see a starter come from this group.

Below is a list of ten players that have reportedly agreed to a deal with the Chiefs. As usual, all of these signings are unofficial until we get the complete list from the Chiefs.

•S Kansas State Tysyn Hartman•G Cal Justin Cheadle•RB Colgate Nate Eachus•WR Louisville Josh Bellamy•WR Nebraska Brandon Kinnie•SS Bethune-Cookman Jean Fanor •SS Florida State Terrance Parks•DB Auburn Neiko Thorpe •DE Notre Dame Ethan Johnson•C UNC Cam HollandAnd here are four players who likely have or will sign with the Chiefs but I cannot reliably confirm it beyond the Twitter rumors:

•K Southern Methodist Matt Szymanski
•LB Louisville Dexter Heyman
•TE Kansas Tim Biere
•FB NC State Taylor Gentry

Of course, if we get some better sources, we'll move these four guys into the "official" list. This time of year is notorious for rampant rumors so we want to be careful. Speaking of being careful, check out this as a good example of why I'm being cautious.

Thoughts on any of these guys?

Don't know anything about most of them but hopefully a couple will crack the roster.

PostSubject: Cincinnati signing Burflict   Mon Apr 30, 2012 10:44 pm

Seldom has a player destroyed their draft stock from the end of the season to the draft as impressively as Arizona State's Vontaze Burfict.

The inside linebacker was once a fixture in the first round of mock drafts, but when the real draft rolled around, he did not hear is name called in any round.

This has left him free to sign with any team that will sign him, and apparently that is the Cincinnati Bengals.

A reporter for The State Press, the Arizona State student newspaper, Master Tesfatsion, tweeted out the news.

If Burfict can perform anywhere near the level that once had him projected as one of the first LBs off the board, he will be able to make this team.

The Bengals did not draft another LB, and they could use the depth behind MLB Rey Maualuga. However, that is a giant question mark.

Burfict has always been dogged by his bad decision-making on the field. He accumulated way too many penalties for anger-induced penalties. Still, it is his performance after the season that has destroyed him.

Many were put off by his attitude at the combine, where he reportedly failed a drug test. He also committed the gravest sin of all for a would be draftee: He was awful in his workouts.

Word on Vontaze Burfict; not good in position drills (i'm watering that down)...as one scout told me "i actually felt bad for him"

So the Bengals will bring in this enigmatic player with no risk. If he is terrible, or has a bad attitude, they simply cut him, and it didn't cost them a draft pick to get him.

I feel this was a mistake made by the Chiefs. Whats the risk of bringing in Burflict for camp and see what he looks like in pads? Not everyday you get the chance to sign a potential top 15 and not have to invest the pick in him. I was completely wrong that he would go by the 3rd or 4th round. I've been watching the Draft since the year that Tony Gonzalez got drafted, and I have never seen a player rated so highly self destruct like Burflict did.

I don't think so, but I don't know for sure either on the QB. The Bengals had a damn fine draft this year! They put their stable of picks to good use I thought.
