Latest Updates On The Chiefs 2012 NFL Draft Interests

by Chris Thorman on Mar 19, 2012 6:18 PM CDT in NFL Draft 2012

Amidst the rather busy 2012 NFL free agency talk, we have for you the second update to the Kansas City Chiefs draft interests chart of the year.

We've added two players since our last update two weeks ago - Cal DT Vaughn Meatoga and Wisconsin G Kevin Zeitler. The Chiefs checked out both players at their respective college's Pro Days. Chiefs defensive line coach Anthony Pleasant had dinner with Meatoga in California earlier this month and a rep for the Chiefs helped run Zeitler's workout in Wisconsin. The Chiefs are also reportedly working out Western Michigan WR Jordan White recently as well.

Here's the list of Pro Days the Chiefs have reportedly been in attendance at: Wisconsin, Cal, Colorado, Colorado St. Cincinnati, Louisville, Rhode Island, Illinois and Hawaii.

Problem is I don't have a clue who Allen and Stephenson are. For all I know they are a bunch of nobody's who are gonna be depth for eternity. I have heard some about Stephenson and they say he could be the next Will Shields.

Donald Stephenson to Team: Highlights, Scouting Report and AnalysisBy Marc Freshman

With a prolific 6'5" frame, Stephenson is 312 pounds of pure athletic aggression.

Strengths:

His towering height gives him unique field vision, while his impressive wingspan and natural quickness makes him an effective blocker and perfectly suits him to play the left side. He's a natural-born athlete with incredible potential.

Weaknesses:

Biggest downfall? He's an undeveloped prospect, as he didn't play in 2009. The film on Stephenson is primarily from 2010 and 2011, which isn't a huge pool from which to extract a concrete impression that he'd have an immediate impact.

Stephenson's inconsistency has kept him from being an elite prospect. He has a lot to prove. Nolan Nawrocki, senior editor and draft specialist at Pro Football Weekly, says Stephenson has "clear starting caliber athletic traits, but must prove that he's willing to work, commit himself to the game."

All in all, Stephenson is a lump of raw talent waiting to be molded. He's a long-term project who could pay off in a big way.

He had an impressive showing at the combine, where he clocked 4.94 in the 40, hit 9'6" in the broad jump, 7.52 in the three cone drill and he beat the other offensive linemen with his vertical prowess of 35.5 inches. He was also an honorable mention All-Big 12 during his senior year.

I'm not really bitching about anybody other than Allen. I read he is severly out of shape and is going to be a project. There are tons of other guys I would have taken over him. Allen was good at Pass Pro but absolutely sucks in run pro. He is a project in the 2nd round. Why do you do that? They took Lilja version 2. We could have got that much later in the draft. I really like the Stephenson pick though, he sounds like a beast who just needs to mature. I think Silatolu was the target there. But damn, you had Osemele, Konz, Brandon Brooks who went to Houston, Devon Still, Jerel Worthy all on the board. I'm not pissed that they took an O lineman, everybody knows that I'm probally the biggest O line homer in here. I'm kinda pissed at who they took and passed over. Although I wouldn't have done it, I think the Poe pick is kinda growing on me a little bit. He's a huge risk though. Pioli has a bigger satchell that I have.

I wish we could have landed Russell Wilson in the 4th round. I really liked that guy and agreed with everything Chucky (Gruden) had to say about him.

Who do we take in rounds 4 through 6 ya'll? I will not even say, because I have been so far off base this draft it isn't even funny. I think Pioli is going to be completely unpredictable now that most of the holes are filled. Burflict, Tank Carder, McNutt, Cyrus Gray, Markelle Martin, Ron Brooks, Kirk Cousins?

We drafted 2nt team conf usa at 11. then we take an even bigger reach in 2. going into rnd 4 there is still a higher rated T than both the ones we chose. Decastro/Taamu would look much better than Poe/Allen. and Taamu is still there.

Michigan State QB Kirk Cousins could be a target in the fourth round of the NFL Draft for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Pioli and Crannel obviously like what they see..Lets put it this way, Carl Peterson could be there drafting guys like Sylvester Morris and Ryan Sims...

So far, I have liked what Pioli has done, except maybe, giving Cassel a franchise QB contract...Other than that, he has done such a much better job than Peterson on so many levels..

I know it is difficult to trust an organization when, for so many years, we dick up drafts, but Pioli and company have done well at the draft..History speaks for itself...

Or carlcould be drafting players like d thomas d carter n smith t gonzales w shields. Piolu has 1 good pick so far so trustong him like he is some football genius is crazy. Just curious how many players are even still on the team from the jackson draft. This looks like it could be the same caliber draft for him. And cant use the no draft talent this time

Or we can have a team that scores 38 points and lose...

...and just for the record, two of those Chief greats were traded because he was too damn cheap..

1 good pick?

Houston, Bailey, Berry, McCluster, Arenas, Asamoah, Moeaki, Lewis, Jackson, Succop (7th round - starting K)...I count 8 starters...

We just drafted Devon Wylie, Wes Welker V2.0...Who had a hand in bringing that guy to the Pats? Hmmmmm...

I don't think we are having to bad of a draft. Definatley not exactly who I wanted, but adding some much needed beef on the lines. Not overly excited on the Poe pick. But they know what they are doing. And Pioli has done a good job so far since coming here. Don't know much about Devon Wiley. I just know he is fast ran a 4.39 at the combine.

Is it just me or is CB Alfonzo Dennard still on the freaking board!??! The guy was a 1st-2nd day prospect, but had a leg injury last season at Nebraska...We need to go that route if he is there..If he isn't Trevin Wade should still be there out of Arizona..

Well, I got the position right in the 5th, just not the player..I feel Dennard would have been the better pick, but I am just here on my computer and not employed in an NFL front office..lol

Menzie is a great value in 5, all the same..

They better burn a pick on Burflict. It is amazing he went from potential top 10 until the 7th round.

Which of those has proven shit? I agree with Berry but even he now has to come back from injury to prove anything. Calling Houston and Bailey great pick ups right now is crazy. Arenas isnt anything special. Asamoah has done what? Moeaki will spend most of his career on injury list like he has his whole carer.Jackson is a bust that is only starting because of the stupid money KC had to pay him. Had Jackson been a second rounder like he should have he'd have already been cut. The players I named are either stars or even hall of famers. And which 2 were traded because of cheapness? I thought it was Pioli that got rid of the greatest TE ever.

You might be more qualified to make the draft picks in the front office than the guy in there now. You guys can believe in Pioli all you want but not 1 on here would have picked any 1 of the players drafted so far. at least not where they were picked. they have all been reaches.

My bad, I thought it was Peterson that dealt him, but it was well known Gonzo wanted to go to a contending team..

I never said any of those guys were HOF material or great..I just stated that they were good picks and starters on this current football team..

Poe may very well make Dorsey and Jackson value where they were picked...I just don't understand your bitterness thrown at Pioli..IMO, he has done a superb job since landing here..

It is strange that our third pick sounds better than the second. But then again Mims sounds great too and we got him undrafted last year.

But not knowing who they are doesn't mean they won't pan out. Pioli took a college wrestler and turned him into a nice guard for the Pats.

People like Pioli and his scouting staff have a little better idea of what they are getting and how they fit than Mel, Todd, or any of us.

You are a "the glass is always half empty" kinda guy, eh? lol

I happen to like how he is building this team through the draft and adding the missing pieces through FA..We are in a heck a lot better shape than we were when Peterson was here, IMO..

Pioli has done a great job with the Chiefs. I think people forget that he inherited a disaster of a team. Not even the best GM and best coach in history could have made that into a Super Bowl team in just a few years.
