PostSubject: Manning Cleared to play! A KC connection. How bout that?   Fri Feb 03, 2012 3:22 am

First topic message reminder :

Peyton Manning's Medical Clearance Makes Him The Perfect Fit In Every Way For Kansas City Chiefs

Peyton Manning has gotten the green light. And that’s the news that everyone has been waiting for.

Here’s the scenario. Andrew Luck is the sure thing. Robert Griffin III is filled with potential. Matt Flynn is the intriguing back-up. Other than that, the quarterback class for 2012 between the NFL Draft and the free agency class is uninspiring. Sure, Ryan Tannehill or Brandon Weeden might turn out to be fine starting quarterbacks. Perhaps a team could do well with Jason Campbell under center. But for the most part, there is only one sure thing on the market. Even Griffin and Flynn are questionable properties, albeit exciting ones.

Obviously there are more than three quarterback needy teams in the NFL. The Chiefs might not count themselves among them. But it’s hard to find anybody fan or media who believes that Matt Cassel has proven himself to be the consistent winner as the starter for the Chiefs that the team hoped he’d turn out to be if given the full-time keys.

You live and die by the quarterback position in the NFL, and it’s hard to believe that even Scott Pioli would believe he’s set for the long term with Cassel. That said, if they are going to go after someone — that someone is not on the market. Unless that someone is Peyton Manning.

The only way the Chiefs are truly going to improve at the quarterback position is if Peyton Manning is healthy and available:

1. He’s finally been cleared medically. Word today is as follows: The sources said Watkins examined Manning recently in Los Angeles and concluded the stability in his neck would have allowed the quarterback to play this Sunday if the nerves in his arm had regenerated to a satisfactory performance level. Watkins also instructed the quarterback to continue an aggressive rehabilitation path that provides an optimistic outlook for Manning to play in 2012.

2. He has to be available for trade or signing. Watching the drama go down in Naptown between Colts owner Jim Irsay and Manning tells you all you need to know about their ability to co-exist while seeing other people (on the field). Andrew Luck is going to be the man. Chuck Pagano is going to be the coach. There’s no way Manning comes back for a victory lap with the Colts.

That means that Manning will be both healthy and available. And check the line in that healthy paragraph: he will likely be ready for this next season. Those were the magic words.

There is no way that Scott Pioli is going to go for Matt Flynn after already trying the back-up quarterback route and paying him rather well to do so. Cassel was the one experiment there, and it’s hard to imagine the Chiefs trading draft picks and paying a big salary to yet another unproven NFL back-up quarterback three years apart. Just won’t happen.

There’s also no way that Pioli trades up in this draft. Unless Griffin falls a bit in the draft order (not happening), then the Chiefs are out of it from the outset. The team has too many holes to trade so many draft assets. Whether or not the fans think they will go for it, the perceived value by the KC front office simply won’t allow it. That’s called cost-prohibitive and the Chiefs lack the roster depth to accommodate that loss.

That means that the team will not make a move at quarterback other than bringing in veteran competition for the starting job a la Jason Campbell or Kyle Orton. Unless someone else is in the mix.

Consider Manning. The Chiefs have the players at the right skill positions to make Manning happy. He loves a Dallas Clark type of tight end and he has the second coming of him that’s even an Iowa product in Tony Moeaki. He has a new first round stud in Jon Baldwin who should develop quite well to go with veteran receivers like Steve Breaston and, presumably, Dwayne Bowe, who continues to show just how amazing of a receiver he is year after year despite his detractors.

The running game would instantly become better than anything Manning has ever enjoyed in Indianapolis as well. Jamaal Charles will be coming off of major surgery and rehab, but he’s young, dynamic and things have been reportedly going well there. The Chiefs should be expected to add another body and Dexter McCluster also keeps things interesting. Manning is smart enough to help whoever the new offensive coordinator is to utilize all of the talent properly.

Even more, Manning is owed a $28 million roster bonus that will likely earn him his freedom from the Colts. It’s hard to tell monetarily what will happen between the Colts and their franchise icon, but some sort of deal will be made. The thing is, Scott Pioli and Clark Hunt are sitting on around that same amount of unspent cash from last year. In other words, if the Chiefs need to absorb a major payment and/or pony up something major for Peyton, the money is absolutely there and available.

More than anything, the Chiefs have a major public relations nightmare on their hands. They have an outstanding lawsuit filed against the team alleging age discrimination on the part of the powers-that-be in the front office. They have Todd Haley’s allegations (and other former employees) that the team had a paranoid, controlling, manipulative environment that even included phone tampering and spying. They have the unspent money that no one has explained well to the fan base who continue to pay exorbitant prices. In short, Arrowhead is a place to be.

One move changes all of that. Short of Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning is the prize of the off-season. This story is even overshadowing the Super Bowl of all things. This is the big fish. If the Chiefs were to get him, they instantly become not only the favorites in the AFC West but guaranteed of several prime time games. The reality is that not only would they instantly sell a million of anything remotely team-related, but any and all ill feelings would dissipate immediately. A PR nightmare needs a salve that heals all wounds. Peyton is that salve.

That might sound dramatic, but imagine the frenzy if Manning were to sport a Chiefs uniform. Imagine the trade announcement. Imagine the analysis that would ensue. Imagine the press coverage of practices, workouts and the lead-up to his first official game action since 2011. Once you’re done imagining all of that, then tell me it’s not worth the move. Thought so.

He definitely has the potential to be great though obviously. I just think hes a little bit more of a project that people think. Unless he went to a fully stocked team, I wouldn't play him as a rookie. At least as a day one starter.

I wouldn't want to either. I think with any QB no matter how they good they are, they should sit a year or two. I would want to resign Orton or bring in Manning even if they did trade up for him.

They didn't really get to him, but he was running a lot better than he was throwing.

No one is ever a sure thing. He has the tools, its a matter of putting them to use at the next level. Cleveland talking about giving up 3 ist rounders to get him is completely crazy in my book.

I don't see it costing Cleveland that much. Holding 2 first rounders this year is more than enough ammo to throw in something like a 3rd along with it. Remember, when using the draft value chart, future first rounders are considered to only be worth half of what is its projected value for 2013. So the first rounders from Washington this year and next are only considered 1.5 in a way. Cleveland will have 2 full, immediate first rounders plus some leftovers from the Julio Jones trade later in this draft.

The number of draft picks you hear being floated this early in the draft process are for suckers anyways. The Rams just want a rumor out there about the size of the ransom its gonna receive. Just a classic, sleazy used car salesman's trick right there.

PostSubject: Vid of Manning throwing the ball this week   Sun Mar 04, 2012 12:48 am

Few people can create so many rumors and intrigue as one Peyton Manning. No. 18 has the NFL world twisting and turning with every move he makes, or every reported move he makes, because we haven't seen Peyton himself in a few weeks.

On Friday, Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star reported that Manning was in Florida, rehabbing his neck and throwing the ball "much, much better". Previous reports had indicated he was at Duke -- at some point -- working out and rehabbing (the connection to Duke is a family friend).

And now a video has surfaced of Manning throwing the ball at Duke. The video headline says it was taken on March 2, 2012, which was Friday. It's an amateur video -- possibly by a fan off to the side of the field -- so the quality is low and it's been edited to show him throwing a few passes.

You see the one of him going deep? That doesn't look like a noodle-arm to me.

Check out the full video after the jump.

March 8th is coming up quick..Sure would like to see him released so we can make a run at him.

Watch Indy say fuck you all and keep Manning on for next season..That would be our luck.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Colts will end Peyton Manning's Indianapolis career on Wednesday.
Manning and owner Jim Irsay will put their respective public relation campaigns aside and join forces at Wednesday's announcement that the Colts will decline the $28 million option. We see no "bad guy" in the breakup, just a natural changing of the guard for a rebuilding franchise. Mort reiterates that Manning "intends to continue to play" and will be a free agent. Manning's landing spot will continue to be the story of the offseason, with the Dolphins, Cardinals, Seahawks, Redskins, Chiefs, and Jets as potential destinations.

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms Peyton Manning is free to sign with another team "from the second he is released."
Reports on the timing of Manning's freedom have been all over the place the past few days. We expect at least a handful of teams to flood Manning's phone with calls and texts as soon as he becomes available.

I would think that with all of the weapons we have here that we would be a very attractive destination.

I agree, but also keep hearing Miami and NYJ are heavy favs to land him. Could turn into a bidding war.

We have the money and the team that he needs for success. I think the most attractive besides us would be Miami. He would basically be the OC, he has Long blocking his blindside, Marshall to throw too, and the HC isnt a complete tool bag.

Peyton Manning's 14-year career with the Indianapolis Colts is coming to an end after owner Jim Irsay informed the four-time NFL MVP that the team will release him Monday night, according to team sources.

Irsay and Manning were traveling together Tuesday night from South Florida on Irsay's private jet and will conduct a joint press conference Wednesday to announce the quarterback's departure, the sources said.

The decision to pass on the $28 million bonus owed to Manning and not to pick up the four remaining years on his contract means Manning will become a free agent. Sources said Manning intends to continue playing despite missing the entire 2011 season after having his third neck surgery in 19 months, a fusion of two vertebrae.

Without Manning, the Colts went just 2-14 and landed the No. 1 overall pick in April's draft.

Irsay has since rebuilt the Colts organization, firing vice chairman Bill Polian, coach Jim Caldwell, most of Caldwell's staff and general manager Chris Polian, Bill's son.

Manning preferred to remain with the Colts, one source said, but a source close to Irsay said the owner concluded that the major restructuring of the organization would include a change a quarterback, likely either former Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck or former Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III.

One source close to Irsay said the decision was not financially driven, evidenced by the fact the owner chose not to engage in negotiations to restructure Manning's contract.

Free agency begins March 13, but Manning can sign with another NFL team immediately after the Colts formally release him. Indianapolis has until 4 p.m. ET on Thursday to make the transaction official.

Sources said Manning expects to have significant dialogue with interested teams before he makes a decision on where to resume his career and is will likely work out for a few select teams once he analyzes his top choices.

Dr. Robert Watkins, who performed the single-level cervical fusion, has stated publicly that he has cleared Manning to resume his playing career and the damaged nerves have regenerated to the point where Manning has thrown the ball with greater distance and velocity in the past few weeks.

To that end, Manning, who turns 36 later this month, conducted an aggressive throwing session in his Colts helmet, shoulder pads and jersey at Duke University on Friday, a source said.

Sources at Duke and close to Manning confirmed he had been conducting aggressive throwing sessions in shoulder pads and helmet since Feb. 28 at Duke, where his former University of Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe is now the head coach. It was Manning's second trip to work under the supervision of Cutcliffe.

Several current teammates who took the field with the quarterback and non-Colts coaches who observed Manning throw in challenging environments during five days of workouts encouraged Manning to keep playing, sources said.

Tom Moore, who was Manning's longtime offensive coordinator beginning in the quarterback's rookie year of 1998, was one of the coaches to observe Manning at Duke, sources said.

Moore retired two years ago, but was an offensive consultant for New York Jets in 2011. His time with the Jets ended with the team's final regular-season game and Moore no longer has any affiliation with the Jets, which enabled him to accept Manning's invitation to observe the workouts.

A former No. 1 overall pick, Manning has broken all of Indianapolis' career records for quarterbacks since being drafted out of Tennessee in 1998. He's taken the Colts to the playoffs 11 times, captured seven AFC South titles in eight years, won two AFC championships, one Super Bowl title and a Super Bowl MVP Award.

But in 2009, after Manning brought the Colts to the cusp of history with a 14-0 start, bad news began to overshadow his lengthy resume. The Colts pulled their starters against the Jets and lost the final two games that season. Indy then wound up losing to New Orleans in the Super Bowl. During the offseason, Manning had the first of his neck surgeries.

Then, after making an early playoff exit in the 2010 season, Manning underwent another neck surgery to repair a damaged nerve that was causing weakness in his throwing arm.

Last July, Irsay signed Manning to a new five-year, $90 million contract extension that everyone expected would keep Manning in Indy for the rest of his career.

But when the nerve did not heal as quickly as anticipated, Manning had two vertebrae fused together in September, a surgery that forced him to miss the first game of his career.

"Experts" are ridiculously saying he's best for Miami and that Miami has the best talent. Really? How is KC not the best available team out there?

Chiefs are easily the best team out there for him. "Experts" might not remember that the Chiefs didn't have Charles, Berry, or Moeaki and that we looked bad most of the year because we had Cassel/Palko at QB.

with a good QB we could possibly be contenders. Allot of those so called experts want him in Miami because he is more marketable there. If he is in KC that means they have to come to KC to talk to him. KC fans would treat this guy with the highest respect.

There isn't any reason why Manning isn't a Chief next season. If the Phins are the next closest fit for Manning that means there is a rivalry. Pioli needs to sign Manning to make sure Carl Peterson gets his ass whooped again!

If he wants to win he comes to KC plain and simple. Not only are we loaded and just need a QB, but our division is a cake walk.

I honestly see this as a four team race right now.. I think he ends up with either the Chiefs, Cardinals, dolphins, or Broncos.

They all have the talent to win with Peyton manning at the helm. Whatever happens, I just hope he does not end up in Denver.

I could definitely see this happening as well, but I wonder if Manning wants to jump right into Tom Brady's stomping grounds and have to see him and the Jets twice a year.

It sure is nice weather down there though.....
