PostSubject: C. Johnson deal proves Chiefs got Charles at a bargain price   Thu Sep 01, 2011 3:44 pm

RB Chris Johnson and the Tennessee Titans finally agreed on a contract extension that will pay the running back $53.5 million in new money and between $55-56 million overall in the next six years. The extension includes $30 million in guaranteed money.

This makes the deal RB Jamaal Charles signed with the Chiefs look like a bargain. (Of course, we have to include the caveat that these contract numbers can be interpreted in so many ways because of some of the funny language in there.)

Charles signed a five-year, $32.5 million extension last December that included $13 million guaranteed. Charles' average per year is reportedly around $5.4 million while it appears Johnson is getting about $9.5 million per year.

Which deal is better?

The Chiefs got the better end of this, I think. Charles didn't hold out at all and they got him at a cheaper rate. I don't think you can say Johnson is that much better than Charles, if he's better at all.

But I am very glad he signed. In my $75 fantasy league I took him in the first with the #8 pick. Then I grabbed Manning second. Everyone said both picks were huge gambles, but I'm feeling OK with it. Not to mention my next three picks were Fitzgerald, Bowe, and Witten.

I would say you are doing alright then.

How can you say Pioli sucks when he has brought all these Super Bowls to KC with the smallest payroll in football?
