PostSubject: Chiefs Draft WR Jonathan Baldwin   Thu Apr 28, 2011 11:08 pm

WR from Pitt
6'5" 225 pounds

# Strengths: Prototypical size and length
# Focuses and doesn't drop many passes
# Great body control and athleticism
# Knows how to use frame and shield corners
# Attacks ball at its apex
# Terrific hands and plucks the football
# Reliable and consistent
# Red zone terror
# Physical runner; doesn't go down easy
# Fearless over the middle
# Gets a lot of Y.A.C.
# Nice hand-eye coordination
# Shows awareness as a receiver
# Long strider
# No. 1 receiver potential at next level
# Elite catch radius
# Good run blocker

Summary: Baldwin brings enough to the table to be viewed as a No. 1 receiver in the NFL, but I don't see him being an elite receiver because he seems to lack the speed and route running (unless this develops in time). Baldwin is a consistent possession receiver who moves the chains and is a difficult cover due to his size and talent. I have a first-round grade on Baldwin going into the 2011 season and his name should be called in the top 30 picks when it's all said and done.

Player Comparison: Brandon Marshall. Marshall has slightly better speed than Baldwin, but both are fearless, consistent possession receivers.

Coming in we wanted Pioli to address RT, NT, OLB, or WR. The guy got it done and got us a big reciever who has the potential to be a number one guy. He will really help us stretch teams out and open things up for our offense. I wanted him, Carimi, or Brooks Reed. Great choice.

I liked this kid early on in the draft process, with the 2nd round grade I didn't think Pioli would pull the trigger this early. I like the pick and was shocked when they passed on Taylor. With the extra 3rd, I hope the pick in the 2nd is Jerrell Powe. We have to get a NT and I think Powe brings as much as Taylor would have.

Poili must have seen Baldwin as a similiar guy to Jones with better hands.

Too much talent pushed into 2nd round to take Powe already. I bet he's available during both our 3rd rounders.

Baldwin was on this was on the list of potential bust picks!

Jon Baldwin, WR, Kansas City Chiefs: This, to me, was the most surprising pick of the first round. On the surface, it makes a ton of sense - Matt Cassel needs more weapons, Dwayne Bowe needs a complement, Baldwin has elite-level talent, and Todd Haley knows wide receivers. That last fact alone might be the saving grace of the pick.

Baldwin is just a weird character fit in Kansas City, and particularly with GM Scott Pioli. He's not a try-hard player. At least during his time at Pittsburgh - when, admittedly, the quarterback play would've left any receiver disenchanted from time to time - he'd look clearly disinterested in what he was doing on the football field.

This was a risky pick for the Chiefs - a true "boom or bust" selection. Baldwin has outstanding skills for a man his size, and catches the ball at its high point with the best of them. But if this pick doesn't work out, it has the feel of one that will fail catastrophically. Chiefs fans have every reason to trust Pioli and Haley to this point; we'll see if this changes anything.

I got a feeling Haley will beat his ass if he decides to be a diva! I'm not to concerned about it.

I'm definitely concerned about him keeping his focus on football. I've said it before, 'a man with potential is simply a man who is not as good as he should be.' We drafted pure potential here. I think Haley is looking forward to kickin his ass.

I like Hankerson more, but there is potential here. Heck lets get them both then get our C and NT in 3.

At least Pioli and Haley have been bringing in the try hard players and good leaders. I would be worried if we had a bunch of bad eggs teaming up with him.

Good point. Last year's drafting of team captains led to an increased comfortability in taking risks down the road.

It sounds to me like he has the character to be a great WR. Pioli knows what he is doing I have faith.

He has tweeted that he will be wearing #88. Looks like Moeaki isn't the only player helping us get over Gonzalez.

False alarm. He retweeted that he wont be wearing that number because it will be getting retired soon.
