What is everyone's draft strategy this year for the Chiefs? Best player available? Draft for need and maybe reach a time or two? Trade back/trade up? Accumulate late round picks or take quality over quantity?

With the chances of a significant portion of offseason training programs being cut short this year and the uncertainty of free agency, I believe that drafting players who are ready to immediately contribute is crucial. Trading back in the first or early second round and then trading up with our picks in 4,5 and 7 (6 is a compensatory and cannot be traded) to create 4-5 picks in rounds 2 and 3 would allow the Chiefs to bring in players they are comfortable with playing right away. Outside of WR, our biggest needs are positions that don't take a lot of time to learn and draft picks can potentially just plug and play.

BPA at position of need without trading up and losing more picks. If somebody in the top of the 2nd wants to trade up with us to get one of the remaining QB's I say do it in a second. There will be a lot of players that can help us in the top of 2. I dont see this as an elite draft class but I do see a lot of good depth at positions the Chiefs need help at. I'd like to get as many picks in rnds 2-4 as possible.

Hopefully the Chiefs will be better at drafting in the second round than they have ever been if thats the case.

Well Pioli only has 1 draft with 2nd rndr so far. I like Mcluster and Arenas so I'm not worried too much after looking at the 2010 draft. But if you look at Piolis 1st draft we did suck til Succop in rnd 7. hopefully it isnt a bad/good/bad/good pattern

While you are correct, last year was a bit of an exception. Obviously its too early to tell since Pioli has been here two years, but last year was just the most stacked draft in history.

From a talent/prospect standpoint.

I agree last years draft was absolutely stacked Rust. I just feel like there is a lot of good talent at positions of need for KC. Players like Reed, Hankerson, Baldwin, Powe, Ellis, Houston, etc that we can get in rnds 2 or 3. That is why I would like to trade back and get another 3rd rnd pick. Now if Watt actually fell to us at 21 I wouldnt trade back for anything.

Only guy I would trade up for is Jones and only if he falls out of the top 10...Other than that, see what is there when we pick..If it doesn't feel right, try and trade down..

The polar opposite of this strategy would be to accumulate late round draft picks, since undrafted free agents won't be able to sign immediately this year. This scenario would allow for either casting a large net this year or trading them for higher round future draft picks. I imagine the Patriots doing this and coming out next year with an extra 1st or 2nd rounder and like ten 6th rounders. This draft could go a number of ways.

Eh. You get like one undrafted free agent who makes the team a year. Maybe.
