PostSubject: Chiefs Current Draft Picks   Wed Feb 23, 2011 7:00 pm

1st Round - #21 (21st overall)
2nd Round - #23 (55th overall)
3rd Round - #22 (86th overall)
4th Round - #21 (117th overall)
5th Round - #4 (132nd overall)
5th Round - #9 (137th overall)
7th Round - #21 (213th overall)

The numbers will change after the third round after compensatory draft picks are rewarded... hopefully we get one of those!

Think they will go D with first pick. But could go a number of ways. I think 55 will be Odowd or Powe.

I'm all for D in the first... but if we don't end up with a WR through FA, and there is a worthy one there in the draft... I think it has to go there. Its not sexy, but I would be OK with OL there too. The Chiefs were actually pretty bad at converting in short yardage situations when running...

The best 2 in rnd 1 will be Baldwin and Hankerson. I'm in the minority, but I think Hankerson is better.

What I like this year is we arent really desperate anywhere. We have a lot of needs, but no real desperation. WR is a big one, but its really for a #2. I hope its Kerrigan or Taylor at #1. I think rnd 3 is where we get a WR.

I think we are desperate for another WR. More than anything. NT might not even be that big of a need yet if Jackson comes around this year like most DL do their third year... then Smith can move back over to NT and hes an upgrade over Edwards who really isn't that bad of a NT.

I wouldn't mind Smith at NT. But both Smith and Edwards are FA I don't see us re signing Edwards

If Jackson even showed flashes I'd say maybe, but Jackson sucks. It was a big reach where we drafted him and really the only big mistake Pioli has made. I dont like the Cassel sign, but if I understand correctly we can get out of it cheap either this or next year so it wasnt stupid like the Jackson pick. But Pioli turned around and had the best Chiefs draft ever this past year so he knows what he is doing most of the time. #2 wr might be a big need, but #2's are generally cheap so it wont be hard to get one.

Eh, I wouldn't say Jackson hasn't shown flashes.

Thats fine, but even with your idea of D-lineman flashes wont be enough in year 3. It's make or brake for him. We dont agree on his potential and to tell you the truth I hope you wind up being right and not me. We'll know next year.

Anyone seen where Andy Dalton is projected. Maybe a late round QB for Chiefs to look at?

Round 1, Pick 21 WR-Jonathan Baldwin, Pitt
The guy stands at 6’5 and 220. Baldwin will run a
faster forty time than both Green and Jones. With a giant like this in the red
zone along with Bowe and Moeki we should see a significant increase in our
touchdown to field goal ratio. He would come in and compete for the number 1
spot immediately. Competition is exactly what Bowe has needed since becoming a
Chief.
Round 2, Pick 55 OLB- Bruce Carter or Robert
Quinn, UNC
I know, I know we have Student Baker but I don’t
think the brass likes him because I refuse to believe a football organization
would show favoritism to a guy who is obviously well past his years (Vrabel) and
who should have been on the bench the year before. KC should select Carter or
Quinn. Either would be a steal in the second round. I could have gone with
another contingency with Brooks Reed, who just came on this year. I think the
fore mentioned names could have made it in the first round any other year is
why I prefer them over Reed.
Round 3, Pick 86 C- Jake Kirkpatrick
Won the award for the best center in the entire NCAA
but for some reason did not get an invite to the combine. He’s a bit small but
really shifty and would be able to come in immediately and fill in were Casey
left off, who should be retained for depth in my humble opinion for no other
reason than I would like to see him retire as a Chief.
Round 4, OT-Demarcus Love, Arkansas
I love the idea of more competition at right tackle.
I think Big Scary Barry has supplanted ROC and well Love should move him right
on down to the practice squad. Richardson can also play guard which
should be easier for the big man to get done. He played decently at Right
Tackle this year as a run blocker but had trouble pass blocking. Love could
come in day one and compete for the starting right tackle position.
Round 5, Pick 132 DT- Kenrick Ellis, HBCU
At 6’5 336 this young man is in good shape. He got
invited to the combine which scares me a little. He may go in an earlier round
which could complicate things a little. You may have to pick him up in the
forth and get a serviceable right tackle in a later round. I hope he is there
in the fifth and we take him though. Comes in day one and is in rotation with
Ron Edwards.
Round 5, Pick 137 QB- Colin Keapernick , Nevada
It’s Matt Cassel and then………? I pray not Brodie
Croyle the guy just won’t work. I think the main reason the Chiefs laid
down for the Chargers at their place this year was because they had no faith in
Brodie. All speculation but the guy just doesn’t have it period. Will he ever
compete for the starting spot in short I don’t think he will. Why because Matt
Cassel is like Mike Vrabel as long as he is alive he is Pioli’s guy. I don’t
know though I hope they eventually draft a QB high to serve as the interim
before it’s all said and done.
Round 6 OLB- Dontay Moch, Nevada
Okay this kid is rumored to run a 4.2 40 yard dash. I
don’t know if I can believe an outside linebacker can run as fast as Chris
Johnson. But even if he runs a 4.4 he could start on special teams and
let Terry Copper make the practice squad where he belongs. You never know he may
pan out to be elite pass rushing animal the NFL has yet seen, and you can’t
ever have enough pass rushers. That is of course if he doesn’t run a 4.2 and Al
Davis doesn’t trade all his picks this year and next year to get him.
Round 7 OT-Orlando Franklin, Miami
This guy is 6’6 and 340 who is a road grader. He is
pretty light on his feet and could come in and play guard or tackle and play it
well.

This guy must be a dreamer. Not a big Baldwin guy myself, but if the draft actually played out like this I'd be more than satisfied. This was on arrowhead addict.

Some of the lower round guys I think could have a big impact in the league we should look at are:

Alex Wujciak - ILB - Maryland - The guy has an incredible motor.
Bruce Miller - OLB - UCF - High motor guy who knows how to get after the qb.
Jerrel Powe - NT - Ole Miss - Big, strong, Could be available in the fifth round.
Jamar Newsome - WR - UCF - Shifty guy with good hands.

Those are a few that I have watched allot of film on. Get on nfldraftscout.com and check them out.

I feel more and more all the time that its going to be Phil Taylor. Pioli loves him some defense, especially DL.

I agree I think it is Taylor. I have felt it would be Taylor, Kerrigan, or Houston. Now I dont think Kerrigan is even there at 21. Houston seems like a situational player. Pass rush specialist only. Taylor will be BPA for us. If Pioli did change it up and take Carimi I wouldnt be pissed with that one either.

Carimi would be a great addition to our line. He might be able even beat Albert out of LT eventually.

I would like this pick if we could get him in 3 or 4.

Andy Dalton would be a great QB to develop. Stanzi and McElroy are two other ones I like.

Why because your an ISU fan. Laughing Stanzi atleast played in a pro style offense. He wont be ready right away but could be down the road. The relationship between Ferentz and Pioli could come into play.

Being a Hawkeye fan, I can honestly say that I have never seen Stanzi as NFL starting material. I was surprised to hear he was even considered draftable.

I would not have thought that last year either. This year he grew into a much smarter QB with great leadership skills. I mean how many other guys did you see callying a huddle on the sidelines at the senior bowl to try and get the team fired up from 17 points down. He was a captain. He wont do anything flashy but he could be a good not great starting in the NFL. He did a great job in the senior bowl game. Pioli was watching.

Dalton has a bigger arm. The only problem with him is some decision making and the stupid ass spread offense he was in.
